Have you found yourself wondering if you should leave your local city community Facebook group?
You’re not alone.
These type of groups started with good intentions of building community and providing helpful information but now they seem to be doing the opposite. They are becoming toxic playgrounds full of bad information, personal attacks and hostility.
The algorithm seems to favor the conflicts. Some members make it a sport to share irritating words that get a lot of contentious engagement. Good people get sucked in and find themselves saying something they regret.
Moderating a toxic community group comes with a great deal of responsibility and neutrality. Often times the moderators break their own rules and become the irritant.
Maybe it’s time to ask why you joined the group in the first place. Or find other groups to join that enrich your world like the Air Fry Recipe Group or the Trader Joes 4 Ingredient Idea Group.
Sometimes it helps to carve out your own social media rules and stick with them:
- What kind of content will you share and engage with?
- What topics will you avoid?
- When is it time to leave a group?
